Exodus: Water from the Rock

LESSON SUMMARY

We’ve been learning that we can see Jesus in the whole Bible. He’s not just a New Testament person. Jesus was God, and part of His salvation plan for the whole world.

And in the Old Testament, through God’s interactions with the Israelites, He would leave them clues to show them what He was going to do.

So far, we’ve seen Jesus in the:

Burning Bush:                    Jesus is the I AM
10 Plagues:                         Jesus as the Firstborn who died for our freedom
Passover:                             Jesus as the Perfect Passover Lamb who took away our sin
Passover:                             Jesus as the Unleavened Bread (striped, pierced, burnt for us)
Parting of the Red Sea:    Jesus is our Deliverer
Manna:                                Jesus our Bread from Heaven
Water from the Rock:      Jesus is the Rock!

Jesus is the Rock

1 Corinthians 10:4 “for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.”

The Holy Spirit is the Water

Jesus died and rose again. And He went back to heaven, so that God the Holy Spirit could come and live in all of us forever. The Holy Spirit is the stream of living water that flows in all who believes in Jesus.  Jesus makes us righteous so the Holy Spirit (the living water) can live in us forever!

John 7:37 … Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”
